Our soap is made with love and care in the family kitchens of the city of Aleppo, where the tradition of making laurel soap has been passed down from generation to generation for over 800 years.
For over a millennium, the Mediterranean region has witnessed the flourishing of Arab-Islamic culture during its golden age. Aleppo emerged as a pivotal trading hub at the crossroads of the Silk Road leading to the Mediterranean Sea. Merchants from around the world flocked to this city, where bustling markets (souks) and caravanserais (merchant inns) thrived. Soap-making became a popular specialization in Aleppo’s trade, and historical records indicate that during the fifteenth century, more than 500 tons of soap were exported annually to the capital of the Ottoman Empire.
In the seventeenth century, European traders brought the knowledge of soap production back to Europe, ushering in the prosperity of the soap-making industry on the continent.
Today, after many centuries have passed, the Aleppo soap industry proudly endures, preserving its traditions. Its renown extends not only across Arab-Islamic and European regions but also to other countries. For over a thousand years, Aleppo soap has remained beloved, maintaining its enduring popularity.
